FAQs

frequently asked questions

Can I self-drive in Kenya?
Yes, self-driving in Kenya is possible with a valid driving license from your home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP). Kenya follows left-hand driving, and there are several trusted car rental agencies available. We can assist you in choosing a vehicle suited to the terrain you will encounter. It’s essential to familiarize yourself with local traffic laws and road conditions before setting off on your adventure.

Is Kenya safe?
Kenya is generally safe for travelers. Supaa Adventure Travel, with its deep-rooted community partnerships, provides up-to-date safety information to ensure your journey is secure. As with any destination, we advise following general safety precautions, staying informed about your surroundings, and letting our team guide you for a worry-free experience.

What kind of insurance do I need?
Comprehensive travel insurance is required for all our clients, covering medical expenses, trip cancellations, and evacuations, particularly for adventure activities. Proof of insurance is mandatory before any activity. Additionally, participants are required to sign waivers acknowledging adventure-related risks, and we ask for emergency contact information to facilitate swift communication if needed.

Which payment methods do you accept?
We offer multiple safe and secure payment options, including bank transfers and M-Pesa (mobile money), for your convenience.

What is the tipping etiquette in Kenya?
Tipping is highly appreciated in Kenya. In restaurants, a tip of around 10% is customary, with the option to leave more for exceptional service. For guides, drivers, and service providers, tipping is discretionary but always welcome. It’s best to tip in Kenyan Shillings (KSh) to make it convenient for recipients.

I am a single traveler/we are a couple/a group. Can I/we book an adventure with you?
Absolutely! Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or in a group, we cater to all. Our adventures are fully customizable to suit your individual or group preferences, ensuring a personalized experience.

How long in advance should I book my adventure?
While last-minute bookings are available, we recommend booking at least 3 months in advance to ensure you secure your desired accommodations and get the best prices. Early bookings also give us ample time to tailor your adventure to perfection.

Where does my money go?
Your payment covers transportation, accommodation, park fees, guides, and other services. As a Maasai-led company committed to ethical tourism, a portion of your fees supports local communities. We collaborate with villagers for homestays, rent motorbikes from local providers, and prioritize sustainable practices, ensuring that tourism benefits the people and places you visit.

I don’t drive a motorbike – can I still do a motorbike safari?
Yes! Our motorbike safaris are designed for everyone, regardless of riding experience. You can ride as a passenger and simply enjoy the scenery. We use 150cc motorbikes, and our drivers will ensure you’re comfortable, with short lessons available if you’d like to try riding yourself.
